Anyone involved in Tom Bean boys’ basketball at the current time must be growing more and more frustrated about how their season has gone. In the last two games, the Cats have narrowly lost to Bells and, most recently, Howe by a score of 52-42. The Tom Cats managed to make the game a close one until late, but a late surge by the Bulldogs helped them secure the win.

Tom Bean was firing on all four cylinders throughout the majority of the match, and often found easy baskets at the low posts. Junior post Keton Parrish scored 8 points for the Cats from down low, and was a problem for the Howe defense the whole game. It was a glorious team effort from the Tomcats, but Howe just proved to be too much. Senior Michael Mariano’s 25 points led the ‘dogs to a nice victory.

So far, Tom Bean has only been able to briefly stroke a district win, as all of their close attempts have resulted in the opposite result. Senior Daniel Harrison spoke of the frustration this can cause for a team.

“We’ve just got to take it to the next level and actually go out there and get a win,” said Harrison. “We’ve been working real hard, but, coming so close against Bells and Howe, it was a disappointment to not get the win after coming that far. Our season hasn’t been going too great, so, coming that close, it was like we were being teased with.”

It is an understandably frustrating situation for the Cats and Coach Colston, who took over the program just this year. The Tomcats have been slowly improving throughout the season, however, and might just get that ever so elusive win on Friday when they travel to S&S to take on the Rams.
