The Texas A&M University-Commerce women’s basketball has announced that junior college second-team All-American Desiree Waller has enrolled in school and will be joining the team for its upcoming season.
“(Waller) was a junior college All-American and that usually means she can play on a high level,” said Lions head basketball coach Denny Downing. “She gives us tremendous speed at point guard. She was one of the most dangerous players in the conference last year. We are excited about her becoming a Lion.”
Waller, a point guard from Thibodaux, La., averaged 16.7 points and 2.5 steals per game as a sophomore last season at Angelina Junior College. She recorded 13.5 points a contest her freshman year and earned first team all-conference and all-region honors in both seasons.
After firing in 19.5 points per game as a senior at Thibodaux High School, Waller was named second team all-state, all-region MVP and team MVP. She earned first-team all-district and all-region honors in all fours years of high school.
Waller and the rest of the Lions will begin the 2008-09 season against Southern Arkansas on Nov. 15 at 2 p.m. in the A&M-Commerce Field House.
