Fannin County officials began making preliminary plans on how to relocate documents to the former Fannin Bank building in Windom, announced tentative names for the proposed detention centers on Silo Road, accepted the road through Sandy Creek Addition as a county road, and met in Executive Session regarding pending litigation filed by former members of the Fannin County Sheriff's Office concerning lost comp time. Fannin County Long-Range Planning Committee has recommended transferring county records from the old jail building to the county’s facility on Windom, the former Fannin Bank building, and that detailed process will begin with a tour of the old jail Wednesday morning to plan the move. The former Fannin Bank building in Windom became available when Fannin Bank donated the building to Fannin County and county officials feel the former bank will offer better security as well as much improved climate control over the old jail building where the records are currently stored. Fannin County Commissioners Court accepted the road that runs through Sandy Creek Addition, County Road 1451, as a county road, although the controversy surrounding CR 1451 may very well continue. Sandy Creek residents have been caught in the middle, navigating a road plagued by numerous potholes while the county debated how to deal with a road that was not built to county specifications. Pct. 1 Commissioner Ronnie Rhudy advised that the road would be maintained with white rock. Commissioners voted on names for the new private jail facility and Fannin County Sheriff's Office that will be located on Silo Road. Although commissioners have asked Fannin County Sheriff Kenneth Moore to provide input for the names at a future commissioners court meeting, tentative names were assigned. For the present time, the private jail will be called Fannin County Detention Center and the sheriff's office will be referred to as Fannin County Law Enforcement Center. Fannin County Commissioners Court then went into Executive Session to discuss personnel matters and to talk about pending litigation. Commissioners court reconvened and advised that no action was taken concerning personnel matters. In regard to pending litigation filed by former members of the Fannin County Sheriff's Office concerning lost comp time, Commissioners voted 4-0 to take no action at this time. This would indicate the county's position is that employees were properly compensated for their time.
