Upward trend of violent cases continues in Fannin County

County Attorney Richard E. Glaser reports that from March 12, 2008 to April 24, 2008 the grand jury met twice to hear sixty-five (65) cases scheduled for their consideration and action. Of the cases presented, sixty-three (63) were True Billed. So far in 2008, the Grand Jury has returned 138 true bills of indictment.

The grand jury continues to deal with more violent crime in Fannin County as it returned indictments against two individuals now charged with conspiracy to commit murder while additional cases resulting in the death of a 26-month-old child and another of a 22-year-old male are still under investigation.

County Attorney Glaser explained that this increase in violence is even more disturbing when you consider the age of some of the victims (an infant) and in several cases of violence the young age of the suspects or offenders. An indictment is a formal charge and not in itself an indication of guilt or innocence.
