Ray Ashlock named to District 2 x 2 Lions Hall of Fame

On April 19, 2008, Past District Governor, Ray Ashlock was named to the District 2 x 2 Lions Hall of Fame.  Ray has served the Lions of Texas for more than 40 years, beginning as charter member of the Irving Lions Club. 

He has served in many capacities in the district, as well as regional and statewide.  Some of his qualifications are:  Vice-president, President , Secretary, Treasurer, Tail twister, Lion tamer, Zone and Region chairman.  Ray has served as District Deputy Governor, Lt. Governor, and Governor of District 2 x 2 which reaches to the East Texas border and down to the Longview -Tyler area. 

Ray is now serving just as strong as Past District Governor and member of the Dodd City Lions Club. 
 
During Ray's tenure of service , he attended all district, state, and many international conventions.  He had great fun serving on the campaign committee for 3 different international directors. He was quite a cheerleader !  Ray attended the Leader Dog School for the Blind in Rochester, Michigan, Lion World Services for the Blind in Little Rock, Arkansas, attended the USA Canadian Forum in Niagra Falls, NY.            
 
One of the most recent accomplishments was helping to organize a walk to raise money for the Lions Camp of Texas in Kerrville, Texas.  The walk raised just over $25,000 this year; what an accomplishment to help handicapped children. 
 
Ray has received two very distinquished awards, the Melvin Jones and the Jack Weiss awards.  Ray is very proud to be able to serve and help others in need. 
 
Attending the ceremony were two very important people in Ray's life, grandsons Colin Ray Ashlock , son of Todd and Amanda Ashlock and Isaiah Christian Taylor.  Colin  is the son of Todd and Amanda Ashlock and Isaiah is the son of Doug and Kristi Taylor who were also present.  Very special and long time friends W.T and Margaret ({Polly) Gilbert were also on hand to congratulate Ray and Elaine on this special day.
