It was the final game of the district softball season for the Tom Bean Lady Cats last Tuesday night. For seniors such as Lindsey Lacy, Erin Tidwell, Megan Mitchell, and Malorie Bullock, this was the last time to play ball on their own home turf. Obviously, all of them wanted to go out with a bang, but that is easier said than done, especially when you are playing District Champs S&S. It appeared that the Lady Rams were the ones wanting to make a statement, as they run-ruled the Cats 10-0, with the game ending in the 6th inning.

It was all S&S from the start, and that was helped by a Nikki Jones 2-run homerun in the first inning. That seemed to take the fire out of the Lady Cats, and the visitors took advantage of that quickly. Haley Colwell got a triple for the Rams on her way to scoring four runs in four at bats, with a triple in the sixth. On the mound, Angela White got the job done again with 10 strikeouts and only 2 hits against her.

Tom Bean pitcher Megan Mitchell managed 6 strikeouts, and she was also one of only two Lady Cats (the other being Erin Tidwell) to get a hit on the night. With one put out and four assists, sophomore Ashlyn LeDane gave a great defensive performance. However, after going down by so many runs so quick, the home team just could not find a way back in this one.

It was a frustrating night for all of the Lady Cats, especially the seniors. However, their playing days for Tom Bean are not over. In the coming days, the Tom Bean ladies will learn of their first playoff opponent, and they will also be looking to keep their season going for as long as possible.
