Austin - State Senator Craig Estes (Wichita Falls-R) was honored as the Senate Legislator of the Year by the Texas Recreation and Park Society for his work in restoring funding for state and local parks during the 80th Legislature.

This year's award was presented to Estes during the Texas Recreation and Park Society's annual Institute and Trade Show held at Angelo State University on March 28. The organization selected Estes for his work in passing House Bill 12 through the State Senate during the final hours of the Regular Session, which provided up to $182 million in new funding for state and local parks.
