Conservation Essay Contest winners

The theme for the Fannin Soil and Water Conservation Districts essay contests this year was “What Conservation Means To Me.”
The contest is held annually for the youth of Fannin County 18 and younger with two categories, one for 13 and younger and one for 14 through 18. There were 82 essays turned in for judging and the top three winners in each category received a monetary award and their essays will be entered into the Area V Conservation Awards Contest with winners in that contest announced in April.
All participants receive a certificate of participation and this year everyone will receive a tree seedling.

Sarah Buford is the daughter of John and Sandy Mahler and she has two brothers and two sisters. She attends Leonard Jr. High and likes to read, swim and play basketball.
Taylor Corbett lives in Windom and is a grade A student at Honey Grove Middle School. She is the daughter of Calvin and Tara Corbett and has a younger sister and two brothers. She enjoys talking with her friends, writing, going to church and participating in Beta, basketball and the UIL One Act Play.
Jennifer Bryan is a home schooled sophomore this year and is involved in church activities, robotics, drama and is very active in 4-H. She would like to become either an editor or an interior designer. Jennifer is the daughter of J.D. and Linda Bryan and has a younger sister.
Dylan Brummett of Trenton won 2nd place in the 14 and older category. Dylan was born in Alice Springs, Australia and lived there until he was five.

Dylan is the son of Jonathan and Lisa Brummett and has two younger sisters. He likes to play basketball, baseball and soccer.
Makagan Mitchell 2nd place winner and Olivia Hilliard 3rd place winner of the 13 and younger category are both from Dodd City Elementary School.

Makagan is a fifth grade student and is the daughter of Marlan and Traci Mitchell. She enjoys showing cattle and playing softball.
Olivia is a third grader and is the daughter of Steve and Julie Hilliard. She enjoys riding her horse, playing basketball and jumping on her trampoline.
The Fannin Soil and Water Conservation District appreciates the educators and parents that encourage the students to participate in the essay contest each year and the student’s efforts in doing so.
