Ector -- The Ector Eagles withstood an early barrage by the Wolfe City Wolves and then stormed back to claim a 22-point win to start district play.
Wolfe City hit their first four shots and grabbed a quick 8-2 lead. An offensive rebound and put-back by Dylan Anglin accounted for Ector's first bucket. Scott Bohannon drove by his man and hit a short basket to help the Eagles start chipping away at the Wolves' lead. Mason Cox connected on a three-point shot from the corner and suddenly Ector was only down one point. Wolfe City dropped in a basket, but Cox answered with a long deuce.
A crisp inbounds pass from Bohannon to Anglin was good for two points, B.J. Kennedy hit a free throw and Anglin nailed a jumper. Brandon Witte drained a three-pointer and then came back to end the first period with a lay-up that left Ector in control, 21-10.
Anglin is arguably the most versatile big man in the county and he stepped outside to hit two treys to start the second quarter. Zakree Thompson drove to the hoop for two points and Kennedy connected twice from beyond the arc. Ector took a comfortable 44-19 lead into the locker room.
Cox hit a pair of triples in the third quarter and Kennedy slid along the baseline for a nice shot. The Eagles were up 59-37 going into the final period.
Wolfe City cut the lead to 15 points in the fourth quarter, but solid play in the paint by Anglin and Bohannon gave the Eagles a 71-49 victory to start district play.
Dylan Anglin led all scorers with 20 points and Mason Cox scored 17 points. Anglin and Cox each had three treys. Scott Bohannon added 11 points, while B.J. Kennedy knocked down two three-pointers and contributed nine points. Zakree Thompson scored seven, Brandon Witte finished with five points and Gary Richards tossed in two points.
Emmanuel Akers had 15 points to pace Wolfe City and Kory Wilkerson scored 11.
