Program aims to control weight and Type 2 diabetes

DALLAS---Those pumpkin pies looked good a few weeks ago and the eggnog was too good to pass up, but now many people are looking for healthy ways to drop all their excess holiday weight.

To help residents of Dallas-Fort Worth with their weight loss battles, Dallas-based Pharmacy Compounding Specialties (PCS Rx) is hosting a seminar about how to lose weight sensibly and without muscle loss or hunger. The free seminar, called Nutritional Intervention for Permanent Weight Loss, will be offered at 7-8 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 3, at the pharmacy’s 8061 Walnut Hill Lane location.

PCS Rx owners Jim Porter (DPh, RPh, A.C.N.), consultant pharmacist and Diane Porter (MS, RN, A.C.N.), nutrition specialist will present the nationally recognized Take Shape for Life program, a weight-management program that’s helped many people safely lose 2 to 4 pounds a week. The program uses guidelines established by Johns Hopkins University.

“Many of our clients have each experienced 1 pound-per-day weight loss,” Diane Porter says.

With more and more customers coming in who need to lose excess weight, and who want to make significant lifestyle changes, the Porters want to implement an easy-to-use program to help them achieve their goals. The Porters chose the Take Shape for Life program because they know the products work and have been researched scientifically.

The pharmacy’s program has been in place since May and more than 300 pounds have been lost by its clients collectively.  Diane Porter says the leading weight-loss winner is a woman who has lost more than 70 pounds during her four months in the program. The same woman has since become a health coach for others and often shares how glad she is to find a program that’s so easy to follow and one that’s helped improve her life, Diane Porter says.

PCS Rx is the only pharmacy in the Dallas-Fort Worth area offering the Take Shape for Life weight-management program. At the seminar, the Porters also will share the six keys from the National Weight Control Registry that help patients lose several pounds a week and keep it off.  Attendees also will receive body-composition tests and diabetic reports, all at no charge.

Seating at the seminar is limited. To make reservations, call Diane Porter at 972-345-8617 or e-mail at nutritionnurse@charter.net. For more information about the program, go to www.weightoffforlife.com.

However, even a 10 percent loss of body weight can improve a person’s health outlook tremendously.
