An exciting first half of action turned into a one-sided affair as the Callisburg Wildcats’ varsity ladies basketball team ran out comfortable winners against the Tom Bean Lady Cats on Tuesday night. The first half was a real battle between the two sides which were both looking to have a good start in district. However, Tom Bean just could not get anything to go their way in the second half, and crashed to a 58-37 defeat in front of their home crowd.

It was a constant uphill battle for the home team. Callisburg continued to apply immense offensive pressure throughout the entire game, and capitalized on many shooting opportunities from the outside. Tom Bean seemed to have an advantage on the inside, but found it difficult to get their shots to fall. This was the Lady Cats’ sixth straight loss, and they are also winless in district play. For a team who is looking to return to the playoffs after last year’s appearance, the Tom Bean ladies’ recent run of form might be a cause for concern.

“Well, we weren’t rebounding, they had a lot of offensive rebounds, and our defense went downhill from the first half,” said senior Leslie Fulton, who led the Tom Bean Lady Cats on the night with nine points. She and her team now go into a period of nine days before their next game; then, they will take part in the Leonard Holiday Tournament on December 27-29. The ladies will be looking to take this opportunity to improve on some weaknesses in their style of play.

“I think we will do a lot of one-on-one stuff, because we seem to not be able to make our lay-ups in the lane,” said senior, and team captain, Lindsey Lacy when asked about what the girls will work on over the break. “Also, I think we will work on our man defense, because I think we played much better in the game when we put pressure on their guards.”

Lanie Lile led the Callisburg ladies with 15 points. They will also take a break for the holidays before jumping back into district play against Bells on January 5.
