The Bonham Lady Warriors evened their record at 4-4 with a 58-45 win over the Bells Lady Panthers (2-6), but a determined Bells team was breathing down Bonham's neck until the Lady Warriors were finally able to distance the Lady Panthers in the final frame.

Bells started strong and the Lady Panthers were up 11-7 after the first quarter.  With Bonham trailing 13-9 early in the second stanza, Ashley Verner came in to hit back-to-back buckets that tied the game.  Verner nailed a nice turn-around jumper and put the next shot in off the glass to make the score 13-13.

Bells battled back behind the play of Ashley Demko, Whitney Jeffrey and Jocelyn Moore.  The teams were all knotted up at 21-21 late in the second period when Bonham junior Amber White took over.  White came down with an offensive rebound and took it back up for two points, despite drawing a foul.  When White's free throw went through the net, Bonham had a three-point advantage.  A Lady Panther drove through the lane for a lay-up to cut the Bonham lead to 24-23.  White came back with a free throw and a bank shot that sent the Lady Warriors to the locker room with a 27-23 lead.

Bells tied the contest, 27-27, in the opening moments of the third period on a lay-up by Kirsten Keene.  Bonham's Barbara Kemp had an outstanding second half and it started when the sophomore point guard grabbed a loose ball and went coast to coast for a lay-up.  Ashley Leeks was another deciding factor.  The junior forward hit a 15-foot jump shot and followed that with a strong drive to the basket that culminated with a hoop and a harm that gave Bonham a little breathing room at 38-32.  Bells got two points on a nice shot by Hillary Monk, but Kemp worked a pass inside to White for a high-percentage shot.  Leeks hit White under the basket on an inbounds pass and the Lady Warriors had a 42-36 advantage after three quarters of play.

In the finale, Kemp connected on a jumper, Leeks drained a triple from the corner and then Kemp canned a trey from the same spot to stretch the margin to 50-36.  Leeks got two points on a breakaway and then White fired a pass up ahead to Leeks and the ensuing basket gave Bonham an 18-point lead.  Bells fought back in the last minute, but Bonham came away with a 58-45 victory.

Barbara Kemp knocked down 19 points, Ashley Leeks scored 17, Amber White threw in 13 points, Ashley Verner finished with five points, with Ashley Campbell and Andrea Bray both chipping in two points.

Kirsten Keene and Ashley Demko each dropped in a dozen points for Bells, while Whitney Jeffrey and Hillary Monk both scored seven points.

Ashley Leeks lays in two of her 17 points.

Amber White was a force under the bucket on both ends and threw in 13 points.

Barbara Kemp knocked down 19 points to lead all scorers.

Ashley Verner came off the bench and gave Bonham a spark with her spirited play in the paint.
