"I was very pleased with the way we played tonight," stated Pottsboro head coach Sandy Jones after her Lady Cards, the No. 8 team in Class 2A handed Class 3A Decatur a four-game loss.
All the big guns were firing away against Decatur. Kristy Townsend and Reagan Hayes combined for 31 kills, Courtni Bauer collected eight kills and Sydney Perry slammed down six kills. Townsend and Bauer also turned in strong defensive efforts with nine blocks and six blocks, respectively.
Jessica Carson passed out 23 assists to the bevy of Lady Card hitters and freshman Katie Wilson dished out a dozen assists.
Ashley Thomas contributed five assists, five blocks and five aces in the winning effort. Lynnsie Crews led the Lady Cards with a dozen digs, while Ashlyn Choate and Jessica Girard each fired five aces through the Decatur defense. Rachel Fetty kept seven digs alive and also finished with three aces.
The Lady Cards (29-6) will play their first play-off match on Saturday, November 3, at 5:00 PM at South Garland High School. They will face the winner of Blooming Grove and Lone Oak.
