Violent crimes and crimes against children dominate new Fannin County Grand Jurors first session

The newly impaneled Fannin County Grand Jury heard 50 cases presented for its consideration during a long first day that resulted in 47 indictments being returned.  A total of 14 cases including sexual assault of a child, endangerment of a child, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and aggravated robbery were true billed. 

Ten cases of either theft or forgery of a financial instrument were also indicted.  Of the remaining cases, 13 involved either drugs or alcohol with 5 cases of engaging in organized criminal activity.  

County and District Attorney Richard Glaser attributed the steady increase in more serious crime to better law enforcement as well as the rapid growth in Fannin County’s population. So far in 2007, the Grand Jury has returned 264 true bills of indictment.
