Fort Worth, TX – July 9, 2007 - Kids Who Care,  a non-profit international musical theatre company based in Fort Worth, Texas will kick off a 10-month tour of its original musical Earth and Soul with a unique event to help planet Earth, starting right here in Fort Worth.

On Wednesday, July 18 at 8:30 a.m., more than 200 children from Texas and eight different countries will come together for an event called Dig This! The kids and teens will plant 200 flowering bulbs, donated by Calloway's Nursery, at the Fort Worth Community Arts Center. In addition to planting the 200 multi-colored bulbs that will bloom each spring, Kids Who Care’s international summer company will preview a song from Earth and Soul. Setting the stage with Kids Who Care will be the Mondo Drummers, a Fort Worth-based rhythm and percussion performance group of children and teens.

“We produce an original musical every summer, and each show’s theme is guided by the hearts and voices of the children and artists we work with,” said Deborah Jung, founding and executive director of Kids Who Care. “As taking care of the planet emerged as our focus, we realized that we should start in our own back yard! Or, in this case, our front yard here at the Fort Worth Community Arts Center in the Cultural District. Planting seeds all year long is what we do. But this year, we will actually dig in the dirt!”

Earth and Soul is the tale of five children’s journey to the center of the earth, where they encounter ordinary people on extraordinary quests to save the planet. The journey begins when the kids wake to drumming in the middle of the night, and one is brave enough to begin digging toward its steady beat.

More than 50 international students aged 10 to 19, will be part of the July premiere of Earth and Soul. They have traveled from Albania, Kenya, Scotland, Israel, Italy, Hungary, Spain and Finland in order to train and perform with Kids Who Care this July.

Earth and Soul runs July 26-29, 2007 at The Scott Theatre, 1300 Gendy St. in Fort Worth. Performance times are Thursday, July 26 at 7:30 p.m., Friday, July 27 at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, July 28 at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 29 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, July 30 at 2:00 p.m. Tickets cost $12-$15, with special pricing of $10 each for groups of 10 or more.
