The landscape of North Texas is changing rapidly to reflect an unprecedented population surge and no area is changing faster than Collin County. 

According to a study of cities with over 100,000 people recently released by the U.S. Census, McKinney is the second fastest growing community in the nation. 

Only North Las Vegas is growing at a faster rate.

This distinction isn't new to McKinney.  In 2004 the Collin County seat had topped the charts as America's fastest growing city with a population between 50,000 and 100,000 residents.

The U.S. Census Bureau figures indicate McKinney was growing at a rate of just over 11% between July 1, 2005 and July 1, 2006.  As of July 2006, McKinney had a population of 107,530. 

Most sources now believe the city's population is over 120,000. 

Four other North Texas cities joined McKinney on the list.  Coming in at No. 6 was Grand Prairie, followed by Denton (No. 9) and Fort Worth (No. 11).
