The Veteran’s of Foreign Wars, Post 2773, and its Ladies Auxiliary, in Denison invites all of Texomaland to join them at an old-fashioned 4th of July picnic and welcome home to area Veteran’s at the Eisenhower Birthplace State Historic Site in Denison on the afternoon of July 4th, 2007.
Along with our partners in this project, we’ve planned a family-friendly celebration which includes music, hot dogs, soft drinks, political speeches, displays of old military vehicles and vintage cars, children’s activities, information booths by area service organizations, our local military recruiters and free, guided tours of the Eisenhower Birthplace.
The park will open at Noon, July 4th, followed by a parade of vintage vehicles and/or motorcycles into the park from a staging area downtown. The vehicles will be provided by members of the Texoma Vintage Car Club, the Keeper’s Car Club and perhaps the Patriot Guard Riders.
At 12:30 pm, the opening ceremonies begin which includes an invitation for all Veteran’s in the crowd to join on the dais to be recognized for their selfless dedication and defense of those Liberties which make this nation unique.
From 1 pm until 3 pm, enjoy the music of “Little Big Iron” while touring the displays and picnicking on the grounds with your families.
At 3 pm, speeches will begin on the front porch of the Birthplace and will include remarks from County Judge Drue Bynum, Mayor Robert Brady, City Councilman Dan Mooney and VFW Chaplain Gary Capshaw. Other speakers may yet be added.
After the speeches, continue strolling the beautiful grounds of the Birthplace park while Justin Hunter provides the music, until the closing ceremonies at 4:30 pm. The park will close at 5 pm to allow the participants time to move to Munson Stadium for the City of Denison’s annual fireworks show after dark.
Won’t you please join us? Bring a picnic basket and celebrate our Liberties! (No alcoholic beverages or glass containers, please)
