Copeland’s classic musical theater piece presented in Garland
By The Living Opera media release
Apr 19, 2007

The Living Opera is proud to present Aaron Copeland’s musical theater masterpiece “The Tender Land." This seldom produced show combines the rousing music of Copeland with a touching story of a girl coming of age in the rural America of the 1930's.  The music ranges from soaring melodies to a hoe down and square dance.  Think Billy the Kid meets Madame Butterfly.

Performances are on April 20 (7:30 PM), 22 (2:00PM), 24 (7:30 PM), 26 (7:30 PM), and 28 (7:30 PM). The venue is Garland’s charming Plaza Theater - 521 W. State St. (NE corner of State & 6th in historic downtown Garland) Garland, TX 75040. Using a small theater allows the audience an immediacy that is impossible in large opera houses and gives TLO the ability to present this great work in a most accessible manner.

The cast of young and outstanding artists will be conducted by TLO’s Composer-in-residence Gregory Sullivan Isaacs. The stage director is John de los Santos, who is familiar to Fort Worth Opera audiences as a choreographer..

Of particular note to Dallas Symphony Audiences is the appearance of Soprano Elizabeth Racheva in the leading role of “Laurie.”

In addition to being the wife of Assistant Conductor Daniel Racheva, DSO audiences heard her perform in subscription concerts led by Maestro Claus Peter Flor.  The Dallas Morning News said that "Ms. Racheva's sweet soprano caressed the ear.”  Her second recent appearance with was with “Voces Intimae” at the Meadows Museum.
