Savoy High School posted dual state championships during the University Interscholastic League State Meet, held in Austin on May 4-5.

Representatives from over 1100 school districts from across Texas vie throughout the year for the state finals. Savoy’s Computer Science team posted new records with individual and team championships in Division 1A.

Savoy’s clean sweep included an individual state championship by Scott Grant and a fourth place finish by Keith Williams. The senior team of Nick Newsom, Brett Parvin, Grant and Williams also stunned larger classified school districts and state contest directors with their total team points of 480, besting some larger districts represented. With the victories the foursome will now become eligible for a share of 1 million dollars in scholarships available from the Texas Interscholastic League Foundation.

Other divisional schools winning top honors at the state level were; Houston’s Cypress Falls, Friendswood, Center, Ozona, Dallas Talented and Gifted, Plano, Katy, and San Antonio O’Connor High Schools.

Superintendent of Schools, Brian Neal reflected winning this state championship exemplifies the high expectations in place throughout the district’s overall educational program. "This team has made history, not only for the district, but the entire community of Savoy. Through dedicated educational professionals, such as their team sponsor, Tom Jones, along with community and family support these honors bring to the forefront the recognition we as a district are receiving throughout the state for our academic programs."

Earlier this spring Savoy High School competed in district and regional UIL competition with over 66 entries, bringing home individual and team championships throughout the North Texas region, including One Act Play competition. Members of Savoy High School’s Academic UIL teams include:
