DURANT, Okla. (Oct. 16, 2005) – After the come-from-behind 24-23 win over Lone Star Conference North Division newcomer Texas A&M University-Commerce Saturday afternoon, two members of the Southeastern Oklahoma football team earned LSC North Player of the Week honors. Sophomore defensive end Jeremiah Spencer earned defensive honors while junior kicker/punter Pete Cuva was tabbed the special teams’ honoree. This marked the third-straight week that two members of the SOSU football team earned honors from the conference.

Spencer, a 6-2, 235-pound native of Rockwall, Texas, was major reason for the Savage win on Saturday as he had both a recovered fumble and a recovered on-side kick in the victory. In addition, Spencer tallied four tackles (two solo) with a tackle for a loss and a quarterback hurry. With 6:56 left in the fourth quarter, Spencer recovered an A&M-Commerce fumble in the end zone as the Lions were looked to expand upon a two-point lead. His fumble recovery then sparked a nine-play, 76-yard drive that was capped by a game-winning field goal. On the ensuing kickoff, Spencer recovered a stray sky kick allowing the Savages to milk the clock.

Cuva, a 6-1, 205-pound native of Forney, Texas, hit the game-winning 21-yard field goal with 2:10 left in the ball game that was set up by Spencer’s fumble recovery. Cuva, the program’s all-time leader in made extra points, also went 3-for-3 in PATs, in a game that saw the A&M-Commerce squad miss an extra point which proved to be the difference in the game. Cuva remains the only kicker in the LSC to remain perfect in extra-point attempts as he is 30-for-30 on the season.

The Savages (5-2, 2-0 LSC North) will look for their fifth-straight victory this weekend as they travel to Weatherford for a 6 p.m. contest at Southwestern Oklahoma State University.
