A public hearing regarding the proposed 2005-2006 MISD budget will be held on Monday, June 27 at 7 p.m. in the MISD school board room.

Actions taken by the MISD Board of Trustees at the June 21, 2005 work-study session are as follows:

The McKinney Independent School District Board of Trustees approved three administrative positions during a work-study meeting on Tuesday, June 21, 2005. The positions approved include the senior director of elementary education, a new principal at Valley Creek Elementary School and a new principal at Dowell Middle School.

Chris Brunner, principal at Valley Creek Elementary School, was approved to be the district’s new senior director of elementary education. Brunner will oversee the instructional programs for all elementary schools including curriculum and professional development, special education, special populations services and accelerated instructional services.

"Chris brings a wealth of knowledge and skills to this position, said Tom Crowe, superintendent of schools for McKinney ISD. "She is well respected by her teachers, the community and her peers. Chris has experience in working with a variety of educational arrangements and has demonstrated success in each one. I look forward to Chris working with the elementary campus administrators as we continue on our journey to excellence for every child."

Brunner has more than 20 years of experience in education and began her career in public education as a 5th grade teacher at Montclair Elementary School in the Garland Independent School District. She served as the assistant principal at Northlake Elementary School in 1994 in the Garland ISD before being named the principal at Bullock Elementary School, also in the Garland ISD in 1996. Brunner came to McKinney ISD as the principal at Valley Creek Elementary in 2001.

Brunner received her bachelor’s degree from Texas Woman’s University in Denton and her teacher’s certification from East Texas State University in Commerce. She also earned a master’s degree in reading and a master’s degree in mid-management from East Texas State University.

The board also approved the hiring of Debbie Garinger to replace Brunner as principal at Valley Creek Elementary School. Garinger began her career in public education as a second grade teacher at Porter Elementary School in the New Caney Independent School District. Throughout her career she has been a 3rd and 4th grade teacher, an elementary school assistant principal and principal, an intermediate school principal and a high school principal. Prior to joining McKinney ISD, Garinger was the high school principal at New Braunfels High School in the New Braunfels ISD.

"Debbie Garinger has a special love of children and the uncanny ability to make everyone instantly comfortable in her presence," Crowe noted. "She has demonstrated great success in each of her previous assignments and I look forward to her joining the MISD team. Chris Brunner will be a tough act to follow but I know that Debbie is up to the challenge. Valley Creek Elementary School, as well as the entire district will benefit from having Debbie on board."

Garinger received her bachelor’s degree in education from Arizona State University and her master’s degree in education administration from Sam Houston State. She is the wife of McKinney ISD athletic director Keith Garinger.

The MISD Board of Trustees also approved the promotion of Eartha Linson to principal at Dowell Middle School. Linson, currently the assistant principal for Dowell, replaces Gavan Goodrich who recently resigned from the district to accept a principal position with the Lovejoy Independent School District.

Linson began her career in public education as a language arts teacher at Piner Middle School in the Sherman ISD. She also taught language arts at Dillingham Intermediate School in Sherman and 12th grade English at Sherman High School. Linson joined McKinney ISD in 1998 as a language arts teacher at Faubion Middle School before being named the assistant principal at Webb Elementary School in 2002. She has served as the assistant principal at Dowell Middle School for two years.

"Eartha will bring consistency as well as the drive to move forward to Dowell Middle School," Crowe said. "The staff at Dowell is committed to providing a quality education in a safe and nurturing environment. Eartha will lead them on that journey and the staff will not miss a beat. Eartha has a work ethic that is to be commended and she is committed to seeing that each child and staff member is challenged to do the best work of his or her life."

Linson received an associate’s degree in secondary education and an associate’s degree in computer science from Grayson College and a bachelor’s degree in English from Austin College. She earned her master’s degree in education from Austin College in 1998.
