TARRANT AREA AND NORTH TEXAS FOOD BANKS REINFORCE

AWARENESS OF AVAILABLE EMERGENCY FOOD

Metroplex food agency hit by warehouse fire

Network of 700 North Central Texas agencies available to serve those in need

Upon hearing of the unfortunate events of the recent fire at the Metroplex food agency’s warehouse, the North Texas Food Bank (NTFB) and Tarrant Area Food Bank (TAFB) want to reinforce the public’s awareness that people in need of emergency food services can access the 700 member agencies that receive food from these two food banks. These agencies include pantries, emergency shelters, after-school programs, residential treatment programs, soup kitchens, senior citizen centers, low-income daycare centers and other social service centers.

NTFB and TAFB are both members of America’s Second Harvest – The Nation’s Food Bank Network (A2H) and serves agencies in 26 North Central Texas counties.  A2H is the nation’s largest hunger relief organization with over 200 food banks in its network.

“We’re sorry to hear the news of the fire at Metroplex and that anyone may be at risk of not getting enough food. The Tarrant Area and North Texas Food Banks are ready and willing to meet any unmet needs due to Metroplex food pantry’s situation,” said Jan Pruitt, CEO of the North Texas Food Bank on behalf of both food banks.

Persons can obtain information on food assistance and other social services by calling Information and Referral at 211.

For every dollar donated to the NTFB and TAFB, ten dollars worth of grocery products are distributed to the hungry.   For information on the NTFB and TAFB visit www.ntxfoodbank.org and www.tafb.org, respectively.
