Austin College volleyball season opens with a win

Sherman, Texas -- The Austin College 'Roos opened their 2026 campaign with a 3-1 win over Howard Payne.

Austin College won the first set, 25-22, but Howard Payne evened up the match with a 25-21 victory in the second set.

The 'Roos took the next two sets, 25-16 and 25-21, to take the match.

Austin College sophomore Mia Johnson led all hitters with 22 kills. Madisin Hartsfield and Caroline Smith both knocked down a dozen kills.

Austin College head coach Ed Garza is in his 30th season at the helm.
