“Most trout are being caught using Pautzke Fire Bait fished on the bottom with light terminal tackle. Quarter-ounce spoons have also been producing fish. Keep your presentation light, work the productive water thoroughly, and take advantage of those cooler periods at the beginning and end of the day.

“Walleye fishing remains productive from the Beaver town area upstream toward Holiday Island. This time of year, don’t be afraid to speed up your presentation. Most of our walleye are being caught by jigging soft plastics or trolling crankbaits in about 15 feet of water. As with the trout, early morning and late evening have been the most productive periods.

“Spotted bass are also cooperating, particularly during the early morning bite. Three-inch flukes and small swimbaits have been producing fish.

“The heat continues to be the biggest challenge. Get on the water early, take plenty of water, stay hydrated and don’t overdo it during the hottest part of the day.

“Here’s to hoping the weatherman is wrong and we get some relief from this heat soon.”
