Leonard, Texas -- The Leonard Lady Tigers are back in town after going 4-2 in the Oahu Classic in Hawaii during the Labor Day weekend and finishing 3rd in their division.
On Friday, September 4, dropped two competitive matches before winning the third match. All three opponents were Hawaiian schools.
Roosevelt edged Leonard, 2-1. Roosevelt took a pivotal opener, 26-24, but Leonard answered with a 25-23 win in the second set. Roosevelt won the tiebreaker, 15-6.
In the second match on Friday, Kapolei slipped by Leonard, 2-1. In another exciting first set, Kapolei prevailed, 26-24, and once again Leonard answered with a 25-20 victory to even up the match. Kapolei took the tiebreaker, 15-10.
In the third match, Leonard bounced back into the win column with a sweep over Radford, 25-19 and 25-15.
On Saturday, Leonard opened up with a win over Rim of the World, a California school. Rim of the World won the first set, 25-23, but Leonard took the second set, 25-18, and the Lady Tigers took the match with a solid 15-8 victory in the tiebreaker.
In the second match on Saturday, Leonard swept a Hawaiian school, Waialua, 25-22 and 25-22.
In Leonard's final match, the Lady Tigers edged another Texas school, Highlands, in a three-set thriller. Leonard won the opener, 25-23, but Highlands came out on top in the second set, 25-22. Leonard got the win with a 15-9 victory in the tiebreaker.
