'Roo volleyball completes sweep of Austin College Classic

Sherman, Texas -- The Austin College volleyball team earned two four-set victories on Saturday in Hughey Gym, defeating McMurry University and Hardin-Simmons University to wrap up the Austin College Classic with a perfect 4-0 mark and improve to 6-0 on the season.

The 'Roos opened the day with a 25-15, 25-12, 26-28, 25-12 win over McMurry. Austin College attacked at a .325 clip in the match, finishing with 53 kills. Caroline Smith paced the offense with 13 kills and hit .333. Madisin Hartsfield added 11 kills on a .588 hitting percentage to go with three blocks, while Mia Johnson tallied 10 kills and Victoria Larson contributed eight kills.

Katie Riemer guided the offense with 29 assists and added seven digs and two service aces. Elizabeth Oh finished with 13 assists. Defensively, Laynie Kovacs collected 24 digs and had five aces. Abby Sadler added 11 digs and two aces.

In the final match of the weekend, the 'Roos held off Hardin-Simmons for a 26-24, 28-26, 21-25, 25-13 victory. After winning two tight opening sets and dropping the third, the 'Roos controlled the fourth frame to seal the win. Johnson led the way with 16 kills, nine digs, and three blocks. Smith recorded 14 kills while hitting .357, and Hartsfield reached double digits again with 10 kills. Larson added seven kills and five digs.

Riemer tallied a double-double with 28 assists and 16 digs, and Oh contributed 19 assists and five digs. Kovacs anchored the defense with 23 digs, while Sadler had seven digs and three aces.
