Dodd City Lady Hornets extend winning streak

Tom Bean, Texas -- The Dodd City Lady Hornets extended their winning streak to eight matches and improved to 11-2 on the year with three wins on Saturday at the Tom Bean Volleyball Tournament.

Dodd City started Saturday by sweeping Wolfe City, although both sets were competitive. Dodd City outlasted Wolfe City, 28-26, in the opener and then picked up a sweep with a 25-21 victory in the second set. Gracyn Shindler put down a dozen kills and Kodi Dorau had 10 kills to join Shindler in double digits. Kayleigh McBrayer and Paige Clark both finished with four kills. McBrayer and Adisen White had 11 assists and nine assists, respectively. Shindler had a team-high nine digs.

Dodd City's second win on Saturday came over a tenacious Tom Bean team that challenged the Lady Hornets in the first set before falling, 25-22. Dodd City rode that momentum to a 25-14 victory in the second set for a sweep. Shindler led the attack with 11 kills, Dorau had seven kills and Clark put down a pair of kills. McBrayer dished out 10 assists. Shindler got under 15 digs, while Dorau, White and Kennedy Chaney all had eight kills apiece.

Dodd City's third win of the day came in a 2-1 win over Trenton, but it was Trenton with a 25-20 victory in the first set. Dodd City evened up the match with a 25-21 win in the second set and then finished strong with a decisive 25-15 win in the third set. Shindler led the Lady Hornets in kills (18) and digs (20). Dorau had a dozen kills, McBrayer finished with five kills, with Caroline Lackey and Clark putting down two kills apiece. Chaney came up with 12 digs, followed by Dorau (9 digs), White (8 digs), Camp (5 digs) and McBrayer (3 digs.) McBrayer, Shindler and White all had two aces apiece.

Dodd City will travel to Cumby on Tuesday, September 1 and then host Sam Rayburn on Friday, September 4.
