Financial institutions of Dodd City 1873-1941

Edmund Hall Dodd, Louis Irvin Dodd and Frank Stewart were the first banker/realtors in Dodd City; along with the Texas & Pacific Railway Company they began to sell the town “block by block.” 

Below are just a few of the early deeds.

1873-9-8  Fannin County Deeds: Vol V page 544-545 EH Dodd deeded to Texas & Pacific Railway Company 26 even blocks with the terms, EH Dodd retained the 27 odd blocks that created the town of Dodd City. - $1.00

1873-12-11  EH Dodd to FD Stewart FCD-W-168 - 14 full Blocks - $2000

1873-12-11  FD Stewart to EH Dodd FCD-W-121 Lot#3 of 13 Blks - $500

1873-12-11  EH Dodd to Louis I Dodd FCD-W-122 -- 13 full Blks -  $1

1873-12-11  EH Dodd to Louis I Dodd FCD-W--Lee123 - 55 acres Cook Sur (1901 part of  this became the VanNoy edition Blk#5, where the Dodd City School is located today) - $10

First State Bank – Nov. 1909

This Feb 1924 check was a down payment on 202 acres (the first time) of the land that James Buchanon Hilliard’s GGG-granddaughter lives on today. James Wilson Hilliard signed for the father. The seller was Dr. AB Kennedy who served as a physician in the Dodd City area for many years.
