Bonham, Texas -- Jim “Papa” Hall, 65, of Telephone, Texas, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on June 27, 2026. Born on June 12, 1961, to J.D. and Phyllis Hall, Jim lived a life defined by hard work, laughter, and love for the outdoors.
Jim dedicated many years of service to Bonham Independent School District, where he worked in maintenance and became known for his dependability and ability to fix just about anything. He was a true outdoorsman who found peace in God’s creation, whether he was bow hunting, fishing, farming, or simply sitting outside taking it all in. He never met an animal he didn’t want to bring home. Chickens, ducks, geese, turkeys, pigs—if it needed feeding, he was probably interested in raising it, at least for a while.
Jim was happiest with a project in his hands and his trusted DeWalt tools nearby. There was always something to build, fix, tinker with, or improve. If he wasn’t working on a project, he was probably thinking about the next one. He had a quick wit, a mischievous sense of humor, and a personality that could fill a room. He was funny, snarky, and could be a bit of a pain now and then—but those who loved him wouldn’t have had him any other way. He kept life interesting, loved to joke around, and left everyone with stories they’ll be telling for years to come. He never took life too seriously and had a special talent for making people laugh, even when they didn’t want to.
More than anything, Jim loved his family. He treasured every moment spent with them and created memories full of laughter, love, and adventure that will be cherished for generations.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Dena Hall of Telephone; his daughters, Crystal Holman and Eric of Sherman, Mindi Hall of Bonham, Amanda Lucas and husband Jeremy of Bonham, and Ashley Hall and Clayton of Bonham; his sons, Josh Hall of Bonham, T.J. Washington and wife Kerbi of Bonham, and Kyle Washington and Brett of Dallas. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Kayleigh, Jordan, Zach, Zae’Leigh, Kianna, Payton, Angel, Rilynn, Brinlee, Avery, Andrew, Trey, Trip, Ellie, and Jaxson; several great-grandchildren; his brothers, James Hall and Billy Hall; his sisters, Debbie, Patricia, Pam, and Kathy; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many dear friends.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home in Bonham. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home.
