Bonham, Texas -- At the first of the year there was a discussion among some of the seniors at the Bonham Texas Senior Center about the binding ingredients in their meatloaf recipes. One said bread crumbs, another said broken pieces of bread and then another said oatmeal.

Apparently the conversation was tabled until the middle of May.  At that time, Powell Sinclair made the statement that his juicy meatloaf was better than anybody else’s meatloaf. Another member, Jim Adams, stated that he would put his mother’s ninety year-old recipe up against anyone else’s recipe.  At that time there were others that were willing to put their meatloaves into the mix and the All-American Meatloaf Bake-Off was born.

The idea was presented to the membership to host a lunch for seniors on July 3, 2026 as the full center was available for that usage.  We discussed and approved a budget including trophies, celebrity judges, donated meatloaves and sides as well as funding of additional items as needed. It was suggested that due to the date and the 250th anniversary of the United States we call this event the All-American Meatloaf Bake-Off.

We currently are soliciting donations of additional baked meatloaves and sides.   We are confirming lunch reservations for the following times: 12:00 PM, 12:30 PM, 1:00 PM and 1:30 PM. Seating is limited and we are encouraging early responses.  All reservations must be made no later than 5:00 PM on July 1, 2026.

We are suggesting donations of $20.00 per meal, but will accept more, which includes meat loaf, 2 sides, dessert and a drink (sweet tea, un-sweet tea or lemonade).  Hotdogs will be provided for those that would prefer a hotdog. Children under 12 years will be served free.

Get ready to have some fun!  Please call 972-529-0282 to donate or confirm your reservation.
