Garland, Texas --
The City of Garland is giving residents a first look at the future of the Granville Arts Center, a project funded through Proposition C of the voter-approved 2025 Grow Garland Bond Program. The renovation will introduce major enhancements, including improved seating and layout, enhanced theatrical systems, and expanded lobby and gathering spaces, preserving the beloved downtown venue as a cornerstone of Garland’s arts and entertainment community while preparing it for the next generation of audiences and performers.
Over the next two years, the Granville Arts Center will undergo renovations aimed at improving accessibility, modernizing building systems and enhancing the theater-going experiences for patrons and performers alike. Planned upgrades include ADA-compliant improvements to seating capacity and comfort, improved access to restrooms, updates to lighting, acoustics and outdoor signage, expanded backstage and rehearsal space, better access to nearby parking and HVAC updates. The project also supports Garland’s broader efforts to strengthen Downtown as a cultural and entertainment destination.

“As both a patron and protector of the fine arts, we’re thrilled to invest in the continued future of arts and entertainment in Garland,” stated Amy Rosenthal, cultural arts director for the City of Garland. “The Granville Arts Center has been a cornerstone of Garland’s cultural life for more than 40 years, and this investment ensures it can continue supporting the incredible artists, organizations and performances our community knows and loves for decades to come.  At the same time, this effort builds on the City of Garland’s overall commitment to restore and revitalize our city’s core as a preferred destination for visiting, shopping and family entertainment.”

According to the Garland Arts Commission, the Granville Arts Center attracts more than 75,000 visitors each year, drawing guests from 29 different states, with 65% of these attendees dining at local restaurants, patronizing local small businesses, and making significant contributions to the local economy. Updates to the Granville Arts Center compliment the City’s $30 million investment to the historic downtown square recognized as ‘2024 Best Economic Game Changer’ from the Texas Downtown Association.

After issuing a Request for Qualifications (RFP) in August 2025 and reviewing submissions from 16 architectural firms, the city selected  Williams Tharp and Semple Brown to headline the renovation effort. Both firms have been singled out for their excellence in renovating civic facilities and upgrading performing arts venues.

The curtain is expected to rise on the renovated Granville Arts Center in early 2028. During construction, select performances will move to other venues. Patrons and performers are encouraged to check for updates and performance information throughout the process.
