Paris, Texas -- The Sam Bell Maxey House invites families to celebrate Father’s Day weekend with “Catapults and Clues,” an engaging afternoon of creativity, teamwork, and friendly competition on Saturday, June 20, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. The event is designed for dads and their favorite sidekicks, featuring hands-on catapult building, a fun and interactive mystery to solve throughout the historic home, and light refreshments. Guests are welcome to come and go during the event.

“After having such a wonderful time in May honoring moms with our ‘Mommy and Me Paint Party,’ we wanted to create something just as memorable for dads,” said Elana Barton, educator at the Sam Bell Maxey House. “Sam Bell Maxey was a wonderful father to his adopted daughter Dora and father-figure to his great nephew Sam Long, so it’s important we honor the fathers in our community. We thought a mix of problem-solving and a catapult craft would be the perfect way to bring families together for some hands-on fun.”

Participants are encouraged to bring a dad, granddad, uncle, big brother, or another special grown-up to share the experience.

Admission is $3 per person. Advance registration is encouraged and can be completed online at visitsambellmaxeyhouse.com or through the Sam Bell Maxey House Facebook page. Tours of the house will be available during the event at the regular admission price of $5.00 for adults; $2.00 for children 6 to 18 years old; and free for children 5 and under.

Sam Bell Maxey House State Historic Site, a Texas Historical Commission property, was built in 1868 in the High Victorian Italianate-style as the home of Samuel Bell Maxey and his wife Marilda. Maxey served in the U.S.-Mexico War, was a Confederate general and two-term U.S. Senator.

Members of the Maxey family lived in the house until 1966 and the restored house reflects almost 100 years of their continuous use. For more information visit www.visitsambellmaxeyhouse.com. www.thc.texas.gov
