Ronald Wayne Cassady (1946-2026)

Sherman, Texas -- Ron Cassady passed away peacefully on April 26, 2026, surrounded at home by his loving family. Born on April 16, 1946, Ron’s life was a testament to love, family, and dedication.

He was born to C.E. and Robbie Cassady, and raised in Cooper, Texas. He attended East Texas State University and began his career as the Managing Director of the Sherman Community Players in 1974. The following year, he met and married the love of his life, Nancy Hall, on December 20, 1975. They shared 50 years of marriage and were blessed with four children, who they raised together in their home out in the country.

The Cassady household was full of love, laughter and so much joy. His children always remember their dad saying “We may not be rich, but we’re rich in love.” Over the decades, their family continued to grow, and in 2001, Ron became a “Pappy” to his first grandchild. In the years to come,13 more grandchildren were welcomed into his life, each of whom he loved deeply.

Along with loving his family, Ron also loved the Lord. He obeyed the gospel early in his marriage and served the body of Christ for many years, through teaching young people, being a deacon, and managing a food pantry. He raised his family in the Lord while carrying that same spirit into his work in the theater. He touched the lives of many people in those 38 years, through both children’s programs and mainstage productions for SCP.  Having his wife and children participate in shows was always a special experience for him as well.

Reflecting on his years with SCP, Ron said “It’s been a great run. How time flies when you’re having fun! It’s been a wonderful life.”

Ron’s interests included making memories with his family and embracing his love of learning and the arts. Taking the pop-up camper to the lake for vacations and for family reunions was always a memorable adventure. He enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, reading the newspapers, and sharing his thoughts about a great book he had read.

As a father, he would read books to his children and have them mesmerized by his story telling, hanging on every word. He loved playing the guitar and listening to a wide variety of music - turning his kids on to The Beatles, James Taylor and much more.  He enjoyed going to see movies, operas and plays at different theaters, and he was very happy to volunteer at SCP after he retired. His most favorite joy of all, was spending time with grandchildren, who loved and cherished their “Pappy”.

He is preceded in death by his parents and survived by his wife, Nancy; children, Andrew (Brandi), Charles, Katy (Casey) and Rachel (Jesse); grandchildren, Dylan, Logan, Hayden, Ava, Emma, Lily, Stella, Cooper, Nora, Maggie, Audrey, Brady, Elliott & Sloane; younger brother, Mike; and many nephews and nieces.

The family will have a private service with a public event to be held at a later date. Please check back.
