Sherman, Texas -- The Sherman Symphony Orchestra (SSO) will present the final performance of their 60th season on May 2 at 7:30 p.m. in Kidd-Key Auditorium, 400 Elm Street, Sherman, Texas. The concert is $20 for adults and free for students, with tickets available for purchase here.

The concert will feature pieces by Alberto Ginastera, Claude Debussy, and Maurice Ravel. The SSO’s 60th season is sponsored by Jane and Bill Douglass, and the concert is sponsored by Goodwill Industries of Northeast Texas. 

The evening will be an atmospheric excursion into the exotic: both Ravel and Ginastera create an otherworldly experience for the ballets from which their two suites come. Ravel’s masterpiece Daphnis and Chloe is his great ballet set in ancient Greece. Debussy’s “Danse for Harp and Strings” is composed of two short movements for solo harp with string orchestra accompaniment. The harp solo will be performed by Naoko Nakamura.

There will be a dessert reception in the municipal ballroom immediately following the concert, sponsored by the Olmstead Team at Paragon Realtors. This concert concludes the SSO’s 60th anniversary season, and information about the 2026-2027 concert season will be available at the reception.

The Sherman Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1966 by Austin College Professor of Music Cecil Isaac and performs several concerts throughout the year including the annual Christmas Pops show in December. Austin College Professor of Music and Music Department Chair Dan Dominick is the Sherman Symphony Orchestra’s director and conductor, taking up the baton in 1992.
