‘Avant-Camp’ fashions created from material waste on view May 4-28
Dallas, Texas -- Galleria Dallas is committed to maintaining a resourceful, impactful and sustainable footprint in our community. As a part of both its Green Initiative and its Artist Collective program that supports local creatives, Galleria Dallas is again partnering with global design firm HKS to showcase designs from the annual TRASHion Show beginning Monday, May 4.
The TRASHion Show is a contest to challenge and inspire creativity among HKS designers, part of the firm’s ESG in Design initiative to create positive impact in communities around the world. By reusing, recycling and repurposing everyday materials to create one-of-a kind garments, TRASHion allows HKS’ designers to explore imaginative ways to reduce waste and demonstrate how design can help overcome worldwide environmental and social challenges.
The theme for the 2026 edition of TRASHion is Avant-Camp, a mash-up that takes the innovation of avant-garde and fuses it with camp’s iconic spectacle.
“This year’s Avant-Camp theme invites our designers to push creative boundaries through bold experimentation and theatrical expression,” said Leanne Doore, art director and TRASHion co-chair at HKS. “By transforming repurposed materials into striking, unconventional fashion, it encourages exploration and dialogue around the future we’re shaping and the footprint we leave behind.”

Materials for TRASHion’s garments must be 90% reused or repurposed. Eight fashion-forward garments made of everything from soda cans to a home-grown material will be featured in a window display on Level 1 near The Westin Galleria Dallas. Not only fashions will be on display. Panels of materials used in the competition will be set up in the corridor between The Westin and Bachendorf’s Jewelers, so shoppers can see, feel and learn about them.
“The HKS TRASHion Show is a celebration of creativity, innovation and purpose, challenging our designers to reimagine what’s possible with materials that would otherwise be considered waste,” said Caitlin Potter, architect and TRASHion co-chair at HKS. “As part of HKS’ broader commitment to sustainable and equitable design, it reflects how we think about impact at every scale, transforming discarded resources into bold, thought-provoking expressions.”

The TRASHion exhibit is just one of the many ways Galleria Dallas goes green throughout the year. The shopping center is committed to maintaining a resourceful, impactful and sustainable footprint in the community. Green practices are integrated into the center’s design and physical features, from landscaping that uses Texas native plants that require less irrigation to property-wide recycling. Galleria Dallas is the 2025 winner of the IREM Foundation’s Jackson Control Sustainability Award.
“Galleria Dallas is committed to green initiatives and is proud to be an IREM Certified Sustainable Property,” said Audrey Miranda, Galleria Dallas’ director of marketing. “Partnering with HKS on its TRASHion Show initiative aligns with both our environmental initiatives and our commitment to showcasing the local creative community. Plus, it’s exciting to see the imaginations of these talented designers at work.”
