Honey Grove, Texas -- The Dodd City Hornets had an early 1-0 lead before the Honey Grove Warriors controlled the final four innings to post a six-run victory.
Neither team could cross home plate during the first two innings of a pitcher's duel. Dodd City got on the scoreboard with one run in the top of the third and then Honey Grove took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the fourth.
Honey Grove added a run in the fifth frame to go up 3-1, but Dodd City tied the game at 3-3 with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth.
Honey Grove put the game away with six runs in the bottom of the sixth and the Warriors held the Hornets scoreless in the top of the seventh to earn a 9-3 win.
Honey Grove's Lane Foster got the start and pitched four innings without giving up a hit to get the win. Carson Reese pitched the final four innings for the save.
Dodd City's Gavin Shindler went 2-for-3 with one RBI. Eastyn Weissert was 1-for-3, scored once and drove in a run. Brody Lappin also had an RBI.
Aaron Solano, Judd Shipman and Cash Crossland all had one hit apiece.
For Honey Grove, Jarrmez Daniels and Zach Wolfe both had a pair of hits.
The Dodd City Hornets will host Whitewright on Friday, April 17 for a 6:30 p.m. contest.
The Hornets travel to Tioga on Tuesday, April 21 and then close out district competition on Friday, April 24 when Dodd City hosts Savoy on Senior Night.
