Collinsville, Texas -- Facing Class 2A Collinsville for the last time this season, the Dodd City Hornets dropped both ends of a doubleheader on Tuesday.
In the first game, an eight-run third inning carried Collinsville to a 15-5 win. Eastyn Weissert, Gavin Shindler, Judd Shipman, Tyler Denney and Cash Crossland all had one hit apiece for Dodd City. Shipman drove in two runs and Shindler had one RBI.
In the nightcap, Collinsville jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first inning, stretched the lead to 9-0 in the fourth frame and then added four runs in the top of the sixth to go up 13-0.
A resilience Dodd City team battled back with three runs in the bottom of the sixth to make the final score 13-3.
Aaron Solano led Dodd City with a pair of hits and one RBI.
Dodd City (8-3) will welcome Tioga to town on Friday for a 4:30 p.m. game. The Hornets will wrap up district play on Friday, April 24 when Dodd City hosts the Savoy Cardinals.
