Assistant Criminal District Attorney Vanessa Vice prosecuted this case and agreed to a maximum punishment of 45 years in prison in order to obtain this guilty plea and waive the defendant's right of appeal without the need for a jury trial.
Ms. Wilson was indicted and has pled guilty in the following cases:
Cause No CR-25-29133 for Theft of Property between $150k and $300K, by a public servant which is a first degree felony; and
Cause No. CR-25-29170 (three counts) a. Forgery; b. Tampering with Governmental record; & c. Tampering with Governmental Record, each a separate third degree felony.
The punishment range for a First degree felony is from 5 to 99 years or life in prison and/or a fine of up to $10,000.
The punishment range for a Third degree felony is from 2 to 10 years in prison and/or a fine of up to $10,000.
The money was misappropriated from the commissary fund at the county jail beginning in 2021 and continuing until 2025 when Wilson was approached in regard to multiple discrepancies in the commissary fund.
Judge Thomas sentenced Wilson to serve 10 years of deferred probation on all four counts and ordered her to pay restitution of $237,463.38 to Fannin County by surrendering 15% of her gross income monthly.
Judge Thomas called Wilson's actions a "terrible theft and a terrible crime," but added that he didn't feel that Wilson posed a danger to the community.
Wilson had no previous criminal record. She admitted to using the money for day-to-day expenses, vacations and gambling.
Judge Thomas is a retired judge from Hunt County, Texas and was appointed on this case by the Administrative Judge for this region of Texas.
