Ector, Texas -- After trailing for six innings, the Dodd City Hornets scored five runs in the seventh inning to rally past the Ector Eagles in district action on Friday.
Ector went up 2-0 in the first frame and stretched its lead to 6-2 in the third inning.
Dodd City began closing in and whittled Ector's advantage down to 8-6 heading into the sixth stanza.
Dodd City scored four runs in the top of the sixth to pull in front, 10-8, only to watch Ector plate three runners in the bottom half of the frame to retake the lead, 11-10.
With fans on the edge of their seats, Dodd City had one last chance as they came up to bat in the top of the seventh and the Hornets made the most of their opportunity. Dodd City scored five runs to go up 15-11 and went on to hold Ector scoreless in the bottom of the seventh to give the Hornets a four-run win on the road.
Dodd City's Judd Shipman went 3-for-5 and drove in four runs. Gavin Shindler also went 3-for-5, scored three runs and drove in one run.
Eastyn Weissert was 2-for-4 with one RBI and scored three runs.
Tyler Denney made the most of his one hit by driving in three runs and Denney worked the Ector pitching staff for three walks.
Cash Crossland, Aaron Solano and Collin Baum all had one hit apiece.
Kaleb Haggard led Ector at the plate with a 3-for-4 performance. Ryder Fulmer and Heath Bingham both had a pair of hits.
Weissert got the start for Dodd City, scattering seven hits over five innings.
Shindler came on in relief in the top of the fifth and held Ector to only one hit to earn the win.
The Dodd City Hornets will host Savoy on Tuesday, March 10.
