Grayson County Historical Society will be celebrating Women's History Month at their meeting on Tuesday March 10, 2026 at 6:30 p.m. and the organization has invited Lana Caswell-Garcia to present her program "The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks."  After Lacks's death, scientists made her immortal because her cells were taken without consent and have been used in saving many lives. Lacks died at the age of 31 in 1951.

Lana Caswell-Garcia was born in Wichita Falls and is a graduate of Alvord High School, and holds a Bachelor of Science in Education, a Master of Arts from Midwestern State University and a Master of Library Science from The University of Texas at Austin. She is the owner of Law and Order: A Library Management Firm which provides library assistance to small firms in North Texas and an Adjunct Instructor of English at Grayson College where she was named Adjunct Instructor of the Year in 2021.

Lana is an ordained elder in the Presbyterian Church. She is currently the president of the Sherman Branch of the National Giving Alliance. Lana is married to the Honorable H.S. (Bert) Garcia, the former U.S. Attorney for the District of Puerto Rico for four years. The Garcias have called Sherman their home since 1983.

Grayson County Historical Society meets on the second Tuesday of the month and at Frontier Village in the Judge Vaughan Room located at Loy Lake, Hwy 75 south exit 61. The door is opened about 6:00 and the program starts at 6:30 p.m.
