Commerce, Texas (February 8, 2026) – Officers from the Commerce Police Department and the East Texas A&M University Police Department were involved in a public safety response incident that occurred earlier this morning in the City of Commerce.
At approximately 8:16 a.m., Commerce Police Department officers were dispatched to a report of a man with a gun. Officers from the East Texas A&M University Police Department responded to assist. During the response, an officer-involved shooting occurred. The suspect was armed at the time of the incident.
The scene has been secured, and there is no ongoing threat to the community.
No officers were injured.
The individual involved was transported for medical treatment.
The incident is being investigated by the Texas Rangers and in accordance with standard protocol, the officers involved have been placed on administrative leave.
The names of the involved officers and the suspect will not be released at this time. Additional information will be released by the investigating agency as it becomes available and as appropriate.
