MLK Day Community Celebration at Austin College Jan. 19

Monday, January 19, 2026, from 11:00 a.m.-noon

Sherman, Texas -- The Texoma community and Austin College will come together for the annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration with the theme “Be the Bridge: From Division to Beloved Community.” 

The 2026 MLK Community Celebration features keynote speaker Aaron “A.T.” Thomas, Denison City Council member, Place 5, and Senior Systems Administrator at Grayson College. Student speakers are Cyn Maciel ’27, Raziya McKinney ’28, Taylor Jones ’28, and Tracee Tarleton ’26 from the Austin College Black Expressions group who will present staged original readings. 

The celebration will also include a musical performance by Julien Tatang ’28. The program will conclude with the presentation of the annual MLK Visionary Award. 

This annual event also serves as a fundraiser for the Grayson County NAACP branch scholarship fund. 

The event is free and open to the public.
