Throughout the year, hotels consistently outperformed prior-year revenue benchmarks, with every month posting year-over-year gains. Notable increases included June and July, which saw double-digit growth of 12.6% and 12.4% respectively compared to the same months in 2024. Occupancy rates are also holding strong at 71.2% for 2025.
With over 20 hotels operating in McKinney, 300 short term rentals, and several more properties on the way in 2026, the rising occupancy rates highlight opportunities for new development, including full-service and resort-style properties.
The surge in revenue is fueling reinvestment into McKinney’s tourism infrastructure and programming. Hotel occupancy taxes support marketing campaigns, tourism-driven activities, and visitor amenities, helping to attract regional and national travelers to McKinney. Year-round events, weddings, sporting tournaments, and corporate meetings continue to drive overnight stays, contributing to the city’s robust hospitality economy.
"This record year shows how far we’ve come. Travelers are discovering McKinney in a new way, and our hospitality community is rising to meet that demand," says Aaron Werner, Visit McKinney Executive Director.
McKinney is excited to welcome several new properties in 2026 including Avid Hotel, AC Marriott, and a dual property, La Quinta & Hawthorn Suites.
In addition to those new properties coming, the City of McKinney has approved an economic development agreement for the JW Marriott Resort Hotel at Craig Ranch. This property is expected to break ground before the end of 2025 and will feature 290 guest rooms, more than 51,000 square feet of event space, and resort-style amenities.
As McKinney looks to the future, city leaders and Visit McKinney remain focused on leveraging tourism growth to enhance the visitor experience, encourage further
hospitality development, and solidify the city’s position as a leading destination in the Dallas-Fort Worth region.
