AAGD partners with Dallas Park and Recreation
to keep Dallas beautiful

Dallas, Texas -- About 100 Apartment Association of Greater Dallas (AAGD) volunteers teamed up with Dallas Park and Recreation crews to clean and beautify the shores and parks at White Rock Lake on Oct. 9.

“It was a beautiful day for our members to join the Dallas Park and Recreation crews to protect the beauty of our lake and its trails by pitching in some grassroots manual labor,” said John Brandes, VP of Customer Engagement for Maintenance Supply Solutions and Community Service Chair of AAGD. “Thanks to the volunteer efforts, we can make a lasting impact on White Rock Lake and the quality of life in Dallas.”

White Rock Lake is a 1,015-acre city lake located approximately 5 miles northeast of downtown Dallas, welcoming more than a million visitors each year for various recreational purposes, including running, boating and birdwatching. The volunteer clean-up efforts included weeding garden beds, picking up litter, pressure washing, removing invasive species and painting handrails.

The AAGD Community Service Committee is committed to helping North Texas communities in need. With the generous backing of AAGD members, the committee has contributed major interior and exterior renovations to women’s shelters, homeless shelters, food pantries and organizations serving children.

Dallas District 9 City Councilwoman Paula Blackmon, whose district encompasses White Rock Lake, stopped by the event to thank and encourage volunteers in their efforts. She has championed the lake as one of the city’s most treasured natural assets.

“It is more than just a scenic spot, but a vital resource for the Dallas community,” Blackmon said. “It’s a place where families gather, where individuals find peace and where our community connects with nature.”

To ensure its long-term health and sustainability, Blackmon secured significant funding for the dredging of White Rock Lake, which included $20 million from the 2024 City of Dallas Bond vote and an additional $15 million from the federal government.
