Sherman, Texas -- The Sherman Symphony Orchestra (SSO) will kick off its 60th season with a concert on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at 7:30 p.m. in Kidd-Key Auditorium, 400 Elm Street, Sherman, Texas. The orchestra will be conducted by Austin College Music Department Chair, Daniel Dominick—who has been SSO’s conductor since 1992. This event is open to the public; tickets are $20 for adults and free for students and children.
The orchestra will play Brahms’ Symphony No. 4, a work of great depth of emotion and strength that will excite from beginning to end. Brahms was a musical craftsman in addition to writing music of beauty; the musical texture of each movement has countermelodies and rhythms that are incredibly inventive and meaningful.
The concert will begin with an overture from Mendelssohn called Calm Sea and Prosperous Voyage. Mendelssohn’s musical description of the ocean and waves is an early-romantic tone poem that expresses the hopes and feelings of the voyage in sound. The Pilgrim’s chorus from Wagner’s Tannhäuser overture will be played as well in this concert.
