Denison, Texas -- Join the Eisenhower Birthplace State Historic Site and the City of Denison to celebrate the birthday of the Supreme Commander of Allied Forces in Europe in World War II and the first Texas-born president of the United States! This is also the 80th anniversary of victory in the Second World War!
Begin the day with the Brick Dedication Sunrise Service for the newest bricks for veterans at the Eisenhower Veterans Monument at 9 am. The Monument is on Highway 75 at North Loy Lake Road (exit 67).
The Perrin Air Force Museum (436 S. McCullum Avenue in Denison) will be open from 9 am to 4 pm that day. Come see the Wall of Honor Exhibit. The Red River Railroad Museum (124 W. Main Street) will also be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Grayson County Master Gardeners will be holding their plant sale at the Eisenhower Birthplace starting at 9:00 a.m.
The Eisenhower Birthplace will host Ike’s Birthday Bash from 10 am to 3 pm. Join us at 10:00 am for Shawnda Rains Entertainment and a program of 1940s patriotic music! The Texoma Civil Air Patrol will present the Colors at 10:30 a.m.
The Hyde Park Signers will take the Pavilion stage at 10:35 am. The Bike & Trike Victory Parade for kids will be at 11 am – Show off your patriotic wheels! A decorating station will be available before the parade.
The Scott Middle School Band will perform at 11:15 a.m. Birthday Cake for All! Celebrate Ike’s 135th birthday with a slice at 12 pm. The Classic Swing Band of Dallas will play Big Band hits & 1940s vibe at 12:30 pm. At 1:45 pm the Scott Middle School Theater Arts will present a program of skits.
We will have free tours, fun crafts, and community partner displays. The Sam Rayburn House State Historic Site is bringing Mr. Sam’s 1947 Cadillac Fleetwood. Come see the Denison Police Department’s classic car. The Denison Public Library, Denison Main Street Program, Bluestem Master Naturalists, Eisenhower State Park, Frontier Village & Museum, and the Grayson County Amateur Radio Club will have displays. Peach Creek Farms will have information about local pollinators.
Enjoy a free bounce house and rides on Lil’ Katy (courtesy of the Red River Railroad Museum) for kids, free tours of the Birthplace at the top of every hour, and an exhibit about the Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP) in the Visitors Center.
