Wolfe City, Texas -- The Dodd City Lady Hornets ran into stiff competition Tuesday night, falling in straight sets to the Class 2A Wolfe City Lady Wolves.
The match was more competitive than the final score would indicate. Dodd City took an 18-16 lead in the first set after successive kills by Addison Weeks and Gracyn Shindler, but Wolfe City finished strong to post a 25-22 victory.
The second set was close until Wolfe City pulled away late for a 25-18 win.
Dodd City was within two points, trailing 22-20 late in the third set, before Wolfe City closed the door with a 25-22 to earn a sweep.
Addison Weeks paced the Dodd City attack with 17 kills and Gracyn Shindler was also in double digits with a dozen kills. Kodi Dorau, Kendyl Lindsey, Caroline Lackey and Kayleigh McBrayer all had one kill apiece.
Shindler handed out 12 assists, followed by Weeks (7), Adisen White (5), Kenzi Freeman (4), McBrayer (4) and Lindsey (1).
Shindler also had a team-high 24 digs, Freeman came up with 16 digs, Weeks had 10 digs, while Kennedy Chaney and McBrayer both got under six digs.
Shindler led Dodd City at the service line with three aces, White had a pair of aces, while Lindsey, Weeks and McBrayer all contributed one kill.
The Dodd City Lady Hornets, 10-7 on the year and ranked No. 10 in Class A, will host the Community Lady Braves on Friday, September 5.
