Fannin County, Texas -- On August 27, 2025, Fannin County First Assistant Criminal District Attorney, Nathan Young, secured a 25-year prison sentence for the offense of Failure to Register as Sex Offender in the case of Carl Alton Jones, Jr., 56, of Bonham.  Jones also received a sentence of 10 years in prison for a related possession of controlled substance case.

The cases stem from a March 2025 Fannin County Sheriff’s Office investigation where the sex offender compliance division was reviewing known offenders living inside of the county.  During a check on Mr. Jones’ residence, Investigator McCann was able to determine that Jones was not residing at his registered location – as required by law.

After speaking with other witnesses who further verified the repeat violation, Investigator McCann interviewed defendant Jones, who ultimately admitted he knew he should have notified the Sheriff’s office about the change – and had failed to do so for several months.

“In 2015 this defendant went to prison for six years for a failure to register as a sex offender,” said First Assistant Nathan Young. “He knew what was expected of his registration when he was released.  His blatant disregard in complying with a service that helps keep our community safe warrants a severe sentence, and sends a message to other offenders that may fail to comply with sex offender registration.”
