Burl William Proctor, Jr., of Dodd City, Texas passed away Sunday, August 24, 2025, at Honey Grove Nursing Center at the age of 84. He was born in Paris, Texas July 27, 1941, the son of Burl “Billy” William Proctor, Sr., and Catherine Virginia Lowry Proctor.
He married his beloved wife Eldred “Diann” Newhouse Proctor on August 27, 1961 at Selfs Church of Christ. Burl lived a life rich in faith, service, and dedication to his family and community. Burl was a devoted husband to Eldred "Diann" Proctor for 64 cherished years. Not only was he a devoted husband, but he was also a loving father and grandfather.
A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, Burl served as a pilot during the Vietnam War, earning the Air Medal for his acts of heroism and meritorious service in aerial flight. Burl's professional life was distinguished by his commitment to education and mentorship, earning a master’s degree. He shared his passion for learning as an educator, inspiring many minds throughout his career.
Beyond his military and educational pursuits, Burl was a fervent supporter of the arts, receiving numerous accolades for his acting from various DFW theatrical organizations and the European American Forces Theater. He showcased his talents as both a producer and actor in independent television, commercial films, and dinner theaters, contributing to over seventeen community theater productions in North Texas.
In his spiritual journey, he served as an ecclesiastic orator of the Lord and a sojourner for Christ both at home and in foreign lands, along with being a deacon at Selfs Church of Christ.
An athlete, a friend, and a cherished member of his community, Burl will be remembered for his infectious spirit and unwavering kindness. He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Diann Proctor, daughters, Laurie Proctor Edwards and husband Jeff, and Ellen Proctor, granddaughters, Cassandra “Cassy” Edwards Weeks, and Drew Edwards.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held to celebrate his remarkable life at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at Selfs Church of Christ. Pastor John Maxham will officiate. Burial will follow at Shiloh Cemetery. A visitation will take place on August 29, 2025, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home in Honey Grove.
