Sulphur Springs, Texas -- The Leonard Lady Tigers cruised into the North Hopkins Volleyball Tournament finals before falling victim to the hometown North Hopkins Lady Panthers in the championship match.
In the tournament quarterfinals, Leonard swept Bonham 25-17 and 25-11, led by Leah Stoy's eight kills. Madison Jones finished with four kills, Ava Flowers had three kills, with Riley Brown and Bella Neaville knocking down a pair of kills. Caroline Holton and Madison Prather had one kill apiece. Flowers handed out 18 assists. Emma Houser led Leonard at the service line with two aces and Olivia Aylor came up with a team-high four digs. Jasper Cunningham dished out one assist, while Trinity Newby and Ashlynn Cavender each had one dig.
In the semifinals, Leonard swept Wolfe City, 25-19 and 25-14. Once again, Stoy paced the leonard attack with eight kills. Neaville finished with five kills, Jones put down four kills, with Prather, Brown and Cavendar all collecting a pair of kills. Aylor and Flowers both had one kill. Flowers doled out 21 assists and Aylor got under four digs. Cunningham handed out two assists and Houser had an ace and one dig.
That sent Leonard into the tournament finals where the hometown North Hopkins Lady Panthers defended their home court by winning in straight sets, 25-19 and 25-21.
Neaville led Leonard with seven kills, Stoy put down six kills, Flowers and Jones had three kills, Cavendar contributed two kills and Brown had one kill. Flowers handed out 21 assists. Aylor had a team-high six digs and Houser finished with four digs.
The Leonard Lady Tigers (12-2) will host Trenton on Tuesday. Leonard is currently ranked No. 9 in Class 3A.
